Tribute to Chiara Lubich - "Let’s meet to Celebrate"
Chiara Lubich's centennial year was celebrated in the context of a pandemic.
Due to the health restrictions, the committee responsible for organizing the celebrations had to rethink the whole organization! This did not prevent us from celebrating. This prompted us to use our creative spirit to celebrate "differently".
In order to reach our friends in the Movement, the idea was to meet them for a moment "together". Meetings sometimes stealthy yet so warm ... on a porch or outside, while following the social distancing, obviously.
We also thought of sending our friends in the Movement a letter to keep in touch with them, which gave us the opportunity to share with one another, over the phone or in writing.
The letter pointed out, among other things, the difficult times that Chiara experienced during the war, when the early days of the movement were being born. This letter touched the hearts, especially in this context of isolation.
For this same occasion, a website was created, to allow us to encounter Chiara, through experiences, testimonies, and reflections.
Other moments of encounter were given to us to witness the spirituality, through our experience in living "the pandemic" and in a virtual way.
The centennial year ended with a virtual festive celebration that brought together some 300 people from 5 continents. Muslims and Christians, young and old, families and singles, religious and lay, gathered all together forming "one people".
During this celebration, everything was about Chiara. Her presence was evident through the unity and love among the participants. Many people from Quebec, Ontario and Haiti spoke and gave testimonies on what Chiara's spirituality brought to their lives, as well as shared experiences pertaining to ecumenical and interreligious dialogues. A message written by Maria Voce was read to us by Vida, counselor for North America at the Centre of the Work of Mary in Rome.
Among the participants were the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Bonazzi, and the Archbishop of Montreal, Bishop Christian Lépine.
Musical performances added a festive touch to the celebration, which was also preceded by a video of the Gen Verde.
It is thanks to the contribution of all the participants and speakers, as well as to the precious help of the technical and translation teams, that we were able to experience such an event together!
So many emotions, so many sharing and so many joys characterized this afternoon of December 6th, to "celebrate the centennial year of Chiara"!
At the end of the program, listening to the background music, the participants were able to greet each other beyond the continents, generating an explosion of spontaneous and unexpected joy confirming the presence of this spirit of family so dear to Chiara.
