A day of love
It is said that a healthy person needs to eat and drink well up to two liters of water per day. We often forget to mention that a person also needs love to live healthy and in the Focolare, there is no shortage of it!
On June 24, 2021, for St. John the Baptist feast, I spent an outstanding day with this group of people. The festivities began with Mass that, at first glance, might seem common. For a very long time, every Sunday, I listened to Mass, but none was like this one. Everyone actively participated: the youngest of the children passed the baskets and the oldest read the intentions. Throughout Mass the priest, who was very charismatic, involved the audience by asking them questions related to the subject of the day. I never saw an audience so attentive to what the priest was telling.
After Mass, everyone went to the park next to the church to have lunch together as a large group. Obviously, the children, more active than the parents, decided to start a soccer game that was refereed and animated by the priest himself! This one joined the game towards the end to enjoy this sporting moment.
At the end of the match, all the families, led by Pascal, the coordinator, gathered in one place for a sports competition with multiple aspects and disciplines. Everyone participated: even the parents! The encouragements could even compete those of the Olympic Games!
In the end, after a beautiful day filled with activities, I learned that despite the differences in age, in origin and in appearance, only one essential thing could have united a group like the one of June 24: Love! And the Focolari members offered it to us all during this day of love and sharing.
